Overview

Synopsis: 

This is a multi-functional operations role that spans infrastructure monitoring, job orchestration, and cybersecurity vigilance

We are seeking a dynamic and versatile professional to serve as an Operating Command Engineer, including responsibilities in Active Batch Job Monitoring and Security Operations Center (SOC) functions.  

This role is pivotal in ensuring the monitoring of health and performance of our Hybrid infrastructure, Batch job orchestration, and Cybersecurity posture. 

The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring system and application health, troubleshooting incidents, responding to security alerts, and ensuring timely execution of scheduled jobs.  

You will work in a fast-paced environment, collaborating across IT, security, and operations teams to maintain uptime, performance, and compliance. 

Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Application Monitoring [Operating Command] 

•            Monitor performance of Windows/Linux servers, Cloud instances (GCP/ AWS), and network infrastructure using tools like SCOM, SolarWinds, AppDynamics and New Relic as applicable 

•            Troubleshoot server issues including disk space, CPU/memory utilization, and application failures. 

•            Investigate service outages, incidents and system issues, log and track in incident reporting system. 

•            Understanding of contemporary security technologies. 

•            Basic understanding of Server On-Prem hardware and Basic Cloud architecture are expected.  

•            DNS and common tools for troubleshooting (eg: ping, traceroute, netstat, nslookup, etc., ) 

•            Should have a basic understanding of Distributed Computing (load balancers, service clusters, server pools, etc., ) 

•            Basic level of Linux administration and Windows Administration (Memory, disk and CPU evaluation, application restart, log management, shell scripts) and RHEL. 

•            Adhere to SOPs and keep up to date the Inventory of all nodes along with the impact and callout sheet. 

•            Understanding of API/ scripting and assist with automation solutions wherever applicable. 

•            Co-ordinate with site technicians and Produce Engineering Groups for issue resolution and escalation. 

ActiveBatch Job Monitoring 

•            Monitor and manage Active Batch job schedules, ensuring successful execution and SLA adherence. 

•            Troubleshoot job failures, analyze logs, and escalate to resolver teams using internal ticketing tools 

•            Schedule jobs, document job flows, incidents, and resolutions; generate performance reports. 

•            Update CRM Focus tickets and maintain shift handover logs with detailed notes on issues and resolutions. 

•            Collaborate with Job Schedulers to optimize job schedules for performance and efficiency. 

•            Ensure job execution adheres to organizational policies and compliance standards 

Security Operations/ SOC

•            Monitor SIEM tools for security alerts and anomalies such as Cortex XSIAM, Defender and more. 

•            Perform initial triage of security incidents, classify severity, and escalate as per AHG (Alert Handling Guidelines). 

•            Perform initial investigation and triage of alerts to determine false positives vs. genuine threats 

•            Document findings, actions taken, and escalate to Cyber Security Incident Response Team when necessary 

•            Track logs from firewalls, IDS/IPS, antivirus, and other security appliances. 

•            Stay updated with current threat trends and indicators of compromise. 

Scope of Responsibility 

•            IT Operations level troubleshooting skills on server performance, hardware and other windows OS related issues are must. 

•            Contribute to Critical Incidents and RCA meetings when situation demands. 

•            Adhere to SOPs and maintain updated inventory and impact documentation. 

•            Usage of Paging tools like PagerDuty is expected. 

•            Utilize APIs when appropriate to write network/system level scripts for automation 

•            Install / upgrade patches, troubleshoot as necessary and provide technical support.  

•            Familiarity with Basic level of SQL Job handling and MS-Database Administration and applications. 

Qualifications

Minimum 5-6 years of experience in IT operations, Willingness to work in rotational shifts and flexible schedules including changing week-offs. 

•            Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills. 

•            Thorough knowledge of emergency procedures; ability to manage emergency situations while handling normal control center functions. 

•            Ability to prioritize decisions based upon multiple criteria and identifiable standards of policies and procedures. 

•            Must possess excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills and the ability to solve problems and de-escalate situations in a non-confrontational manner. These include the ability to read and write the English language and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating procedures, maintenance instructions and reports. 

•            Ability to work independently and a trait of initiative and ownership. 

•            Basic understanding of networking, load balancers, distributed computing, and cloud architecture. 

•            ITIL v3/v4 certification is an advantage. 

•            Passion for IT operations, and cybersecurity.
